Schaerf, doctor en medicina.<\/h1>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6947290 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"6947290\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Fundador <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ab667c9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ab667c9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>FORT MYERS \u2013 Frederick Warren Schaerf, MD, Ph.D., nuestro amado esposo y padre, falleci\u00f3 el 14 de julio de 2018 tras una valiente y p\u00fablica batalla contra la esclerosis lateral amiotr\u00f3fica (enfermedad de Lou Gehrig). Fred naci\u00f3 el 10 de febrero de 1951 en Basilea, Suiza, hijo de Herman Hersch Schaerf, MD, y Gabriella Elsa von Pidoll Schaerf. Su padre, Herman, hab\u00eda escapado del holocausto a trav\u00e9s de Basilea, gradu\u00e1ndose con un doctorado en medicina de la Universidad de Basilea y trabajando como neum\u00f3logo en un hospital jud\u00edo. Fue all\u00ed donde contrat\u00f3 a Gabriella, una enfermera que, al no ser jud\u00eda, pod\u00eda trabajar los viernes por la noche y los s\u00e1bados. En 1953, abordaron el Queen Mary con el joven Frederick, emigrando a Estados Unidos con la esperanza de encontrar una vida mejor y m\u00e1s segura. Finalmente se establecieron en Baltimore, Maryland, donde Fred se crio. Era el mayor de tres hijos: dos varones y una mujer.<\/p><p>Aunque crecer fue dif\u00edcil a veces, debido en parte a los persistentes efectos emocionales de la guerra que azot\u00f3 a su padre, se sent\u00eda orgulloso de su herencia suiza, manteniendo siempre en secreto la nobleza y la historia familiar de su madre. Tras graduarse de la escuela secundaria en 1969, en pleno apogeo de la guerra de Vietnam, con un n\u00famero muy bajo en el sorteo de reclutamiento, se alist\u00f3 en la Guardia Nacional del Ej\u00e9rcito de Maryland, donde sirvi\u00f3 casi 10 a\u00f1os, brindando atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica a una compa\u00f1\u00eda de helic\u00f3pteros de ataque, y fue dado de baja como capit\u00e1n del Cuerpo M\u00e9dico del Ej\u00e9rcito de los Estados Unidos. Adem\u00e1s, tras graduarse de la Universidad Commonwealth de Virginia con una licenciatura en Ciencias en 1974, obtuvo una beca predoctoral de los NIH con la internacionalmente conocida Dra. Cornelia Channing, estudiando Endocrinolog\u00eda Reproductiva en la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Maryland, donde obtuvo un doctorado. en 1980, seguido por un MD en 1983. Fred luego tuvo lo que \u00e9l describi\u00f3 como el mayor regalo educativo de su vida, una pasant\u00eda y residencia en el Hospital Johns Hopkins en Baltimore, bajo la direcci\u00f3n del Dr. Paul McHugh. En Johns Hopkins fue Jefe de Residentes en el Departamento de Psiquiatr\u00eda y Ciencias del Comportamiento antes de ser nombrado Profesor Adjunto en el mismo departamento en 1987. Este fue el apogeo de la epidemia de VIH\/SIDA y Fred fue instrumental en el inicio de un servicio psiqui\u00e1trico en Johns Hopkins dedicado a la atenci\u00f3n y el tratamiento de las personas infectadas con el virus del VIH. Tambi\u00e9n trabaj\u00f3 con el Dr. Fred Berlin, evaluando y tratando a hombres con trastornos sexuales. Fred estaba certificado por la Junta en Psiquiatr\u00eda de Adultos, Forense y Geri\u00e1trica y fue Miembro Vitalicio de la Asociaci\u00f3n Estadounidense de Psiquiatr\u00eda.<\/p><p>En 1989, Fred se mud\u00f3 a Fort Myers, Florida, y fund\u00f3 Neuropsychiatric Associates, brindando atenci\u00f3n psiqui\u00e1trica de vanguardia a m\u00e1s de 28,000 pacientes durante m\u00e1s de 28 a\u00f1os. Adem\u00e1s, en 2001, Fred fund\u00f3 el Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n Neuropsiqui\u00e1trica, que se ha convertido en un centro de investigaci\u00f3n cl\u00ednica reconocido a nivel nacional e internacional, especializado en la enfermedad de Alzheimer y trastornos de la memoria relacionados.<\/p><p>Fred siempre asumi\u00f3 un fuerte rol de liderazgo y fue un defensor incansable, educando a los l\u00edderes de Fort Myers, Florida, sobre principios psiqui\u00e1tricos y promoviendo mejoras en la atenci\u00f3n psiqui\u00e1trica de sus ciudadanos. Entre sus numerosos cargos de liderazgo se incluyen el de director m\u00e9dico del Centro Ruth Cooper (ahora Salus Care, que obtuvo la acreditaci\u00f3n de la JCAHO por primera y \u00fanica vez durante su mandato en la d\u00e9cada de 1990), subdirector m\u00e9dico del Hospital Charter Glade, miembro del Consejo Local de Defensa Designado por el Gobernador y miembro de la Junta del Programa de Investigaci\u00f3n de la Enfermedad de Alzheimer Ed y Ethel Moore.<\/p><p>El a\u00f1o 1994 fue el momento culminante de la vida de Fred, cuando conoci\u00f3 y se enamor\u00f3 de Melissa, a quien siempre describi\u00f3 como la bendici\u00f3n que le salv\u00f3 la vida. Se casaron en 1998 y dieron la bienvenida con gran amor a su primera hija, Alexandra, en 1999, seguida de su hijo, Frederick II, en 2002.
